Braces are a form of orthodontic treatment that is commonly used to correct crowded and misaligned teeth or jaws.
Braces utilize small fixtures called brackets that are attached to your teeth and a thin metal wire called an archwire which runs through these brackets. During the treatment the archwire is gradually adjusted to apply force, moving your teeth into the desired position.
Types of Braces
Our dental clinic offers a wide selection of dental braces.
After a thorough examination of your case we will recommend the best type of dental braces to be used in order to address effectively your issue.
Conventional Metal Braces
The conventional metal braces, made out of stainless steel, are the most common type of dental braces used in general. This is mainly because they cost cheaper than other type of braces. Traditional braces have to be tightened with the elastic ties every 4 to 6 weeks. The elastic ties are colors you usually see on the braces which hold the aligning wires in place.
A downside that some people find in this type of braces is that are highly noticeable on the teeth but others consider this look like fashion using different color of ligatures/elastic bands.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are a popular alternative to traditional metal braces since they are less noticeable than metal braces. Furthermore, thanks to the specialized ceramic material used, ceramic brackets do not stain or discolor, thus patients do not have to worry about their braces staining after eating or drinking.
Ceramic braces are slightly more expensive than the traditional metal braces.
Self-ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces have no elastic ties. Instead, brackets or clips hold the wires in place. This keeps self-ligating braces always active and moving teeth at a faster pace. With this type of braces you may have shorter orthodontist appointments, easier cleaning, and less discomfort.
